Found this huge moth larva in a mulch pile. It's a 'Black Witch' or 'Money Moth', Ascalapha odorata, superfamily Noctuoidea. Different cultures have different myths attached to it, hence the witch and money names. I opted for the penny as a size comparison--not a broom. The stinger is not to injure but to dig, I assume.
