Each Kona coffee tree produces up to 1,300 lbs of coffee cherries in their lifespan, the amount needed to get about 200 lbs of roasted coffee beans. Arabica Kona typica coffee trees are the highest producing trees in the world, but even these old ‘giving trees’ get tired and move on after a while.
These trees have either completed their life cycle, or were toppled by a fierce Kona storm. Doesn’t happen often, but when it does, we can’t muster the willpower to simply shred them into mulch. Kona wood deserves a bit more dignity and a useful afterlife--and to keep serving coffee!
Each ‘Kona Coaster’ has unique characteristics, so no two are the same. Some have small natural holes, scratches, scrapes and burn marks. Each also vary in size, and have been sealed with several layers of glossy, high quality polyurethane to bring out the natural characteristics of the wood, and to preserve it for decades to come.
A wonderful gift for the Kona coffee drinker that’s not easily impressed, or an exquisite compliment to any home with a warm coffee mug that needs a ‘nice old tree’ to rest upon.
