Kealakekua fault line, Kona coast

The long backdrop of the hill above the trees is the so called 'Kealakekua Fault'. Kealakekua Bay was created about 120,000 years ago when a 20 mile chunk of the shore broke off and slid into the sea. The resulting tsunami completely submerged the island of Kaho'olawe, 1500 ft high.
